"A Little Something Larger Than Life"

How do you read the scriptures?
Let me ask you a question. How many times do you simply read through the Bible hoping to pick up something that will help you get through the day or answer a problem you might have? I know that I am guilty of this time and time again. I force myself to sit and read through the scriptures from time to time hoping to understand something and come closer to God or to become a little steadier in my walk with Christ. There is something I want you to consider that I just came across and it hit me like a brick. it comes from person by the name of Gipsy Smith. Gipsy Smith told of a man who said he had received no inspiration from the Bible although he had "gone through it several times." "Let it go through you once," replied Smith, "then you will tell a different story!" If we just simply make time to sit with the Lord with an open heart not as a child forced to go to school, but as a child with eyes and a heart willing to listen and learn oh what the Lord will show you and the scriptures will come alive for you.

Next time you sit to read your Bible sit for a moment or two and do nothing but sit in silence and listen and pray for a moment. You are about to talk to God and listen to His Word. have a reverence for what you are doing. The book you hold is a Holy Book it is the Word of God Himself. written to you 200 years ago have some respect for it and for Him before you enter into His word. Pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit that God will open the scriptures to you and show you what He wishes you to know. He will teach you but you must be willing to listen and to what you read. Take your preconceived notions of the Bible and leave them outside the cover. As you enter the Word of God, humble yourself that He may teach you.
